Interfaith Community Care Volunteers
Interfaith Community Care volunteers perform many of the services available to clients. Interfaith depends greatly upon the time and talents of these deeply dedicated individuals who believe in the Interfaith Community Care mission of helping individuals remain living independently in their own homes. Volunteers grocery shop, work in day centers, provide transportation to visually and physically impaired individuals, make minor repairs to client's homes, help with mailings and other business operations. Opportunities are also available for students to gain extra credit work and experience for Social Work and Intake Social Work.
Interfaith is always looking for friendly people to help our clients. There are so many opportunities…we have one that is just right for you! Below is a list of volunteer opportunities with Interfaith Community Care. Adult Day Centers
|
|
Program Assistant
|
| Provide general
assistance and care to the participants.
May have specific duties in carrying out program activities such as
leading physical exercise, reading, arts and crafts and more. Assist participants with specific tasks such
as feeding, personal care and toileting.

|
Activity Leader
|
| Assist the staff with
planning and implementing specific program activities for Day Center
participants. Examples of activities
include arts and crafts, games, trivia, musical or other entertainment and much
more. |

|
Health Screening
|
| Provide weekly or monthly blood pressure
checks. Assist with special health
screenings for participants and community members. Must be trained and have experience in taking
blood pressure measurements.

|
Kitchen Assistant
|
|
Help prepare, serve and clean up
during snack times and lunch time. For
lunch, a hot meal is catered in and served (no cooking required). Assist with preparation and serving of
special or restricted diets. Ensure that
proper food storage/handling techniques are followed. A food handler’s certificate from the state
of Arizona is
required. Contact the Director of
Volunteers for more information on obtaining this certification.

Nurse (unlicensed)
|
|
Provide support and
assistance to the licensed nurse with daily nursing services provided to the
individuals at the day center. Must have
qualified experience as a LPN or RN.

|
Program Buddy
|
| Provide companionship
and supervision to participants on a one to one basis. Provide encouragement to enhance their
participation in program activities. Act
as a friend and advocate for specific individuals.

|
Student Interns
|
| Internships are available for students enrolled in
an accredited college or university program.
Opportunities include Activity Leader and Student Nurse
Internships. Interns must meet regularly
with staff regarding the status of their goals and objectives.

|
Bus Driver Assistant
|
| Provide assistance
and support to the Bus Driver (staff).
Accompany the driver and provide help in the event of an emergency. Help to keep participants seated with
seatbelts fastened. Assist participants
off and on the bus/van. No driving
required/allowed.

|
Nurse (licensed)
|
|
Assist the staff nurse. Provide daily nursing care/services to
participants, serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team for care
plans. Must be licensed a licensed RN in
the state of Arizona
and have/obtain current CPR and First Aid certification.

Business Operations
|
|
Office Assistant
|
| Maintain participant
files, organize monthly statements, complete attendance records, type index cards
and more. Basic office skills and attention to detail are required. Also on an
on-call basis, provide extra support for mailings (folding, labeling, stuffing
and addressing envelopes).

Care Management
|
|
Service Coordinator
|
| Provide in home
assessment, prepares and carries out care plan and provides follow up
care/services to enable participants to remain in their own home for as long as
possible. Requires at least one year
experience as an Interfaith Services case aide.
Sensitivity, communication, interviewing and assessment skills, patience
and persistence are also required. Must
complete an in-depth orientation and training process prior to beginning this
assignment.

Student Intern/Social Work
|
| Assist staff with direct
service to participants. Develop
concepts and materials to enhance direct services provided by the agency. Must be enrolled in an accredited college or
university in the social work or counseling fields. Requires a minimum of seven hours per week under
staff supervision.

|
Case Aide/Assistant
|
| Work closely with
Care Manager (staff) to provide participants with direct service in
implementing supportive services as indicated in the individual’s care
plan. Provide the Care Manager with
ongoing progress reports. Act as the
participants advocate in obtaining needed services.

Home Care Assistance
|
|
Field Support Nurse
|
| Provide support and
assistance to the Home Care Assistance Department. Duties may include patient assessments, care
plans, staff training and support and quality assurance. Requires a current RN license or documented
RN experience.
|
| |
|
Office Assistant
|
| Provide general office assistance and support to the
HCA department. Duties may include
compiling reports, telephone calls, filing and more. Requires attention to detail and basic office
skills
|
| |
|
Training Assistant
|
| Assist with the
development and implementation of staff training such as CPR/First Aid or
Universal Precautions. Must have
documented experience as a RN or LPN.
|
| |
Home Services
|
|
Errands
|
| Provide assistance on an on-call basis to homebound individuals by
picking up prescriptions, groceries or running other miscellaneous
errands.
|
| |
|
Friendly Visitor
|
| Help to combat loneliness by
spending some time each week with an elderly person. Friendly visitors can read and write mail,
play games, share a meal, take people shopping or just visit in the person’s
home. Friendly Visitors also serve a dual
purpose by providing some relief time for the caregiver. |

|
Grocery Shopping/ Delivery
|
|
Help a homebound or
physically impaired individual maintain their independence by shopping and
delivering groceries on an ongoing basis.
|
| |
|
Handyman/Home Repair
|
| Provide minor home
repair and maintenance work for someone who can’t do it themselves. Tasks may include changing furnace filters
and light bulbs, installing handrails in bathrooms or other minor jobs as
requested.

| |
|
Office Assistant
|
| Assist Home Services Coordinators (staff) or designee with
processing and coordinating grocery shopping services. Tasks may include picking up and organizing
shopping lists, phone calls and other general office tasks. |
| |
|
Phone Pals
|
| Provide periodic
(daily or weekly) telephone calls to homebound and socially isolated
individuals. Build a relationship and
get to know a person over the phone.
|
| |
|
Respite
|
| Provide an occasional
sitting service to impaired adults so that the caregiver can take a break, run
errands or attend to other personal/family matters. |
| |
|
Transportation
|
| Help a senior
maintain their independence and dignity by taking them to and from
medical,
dental and other appointments on an on-call basis. On occasion,
people need to go outside the Northwest Valley area.

|
Computer technician
|
| Help seniors with
computer questions, along with other technical small electronics enhancements,
assisting with the installation i.e. CD, DVD, computer, printer, etc.
|
| |
|
Business Affairs
|
| Teach people who may be widows/widowers how to handle basic business
affairs, such as balancing checkbooks and completing insurance
forms. Answer other questions regarding business affairs.
|
| |
|
Receptionist
|
| Greet visitors to the
Day Center,
answer telephones, take messages and provide other clerical support to the Day Center
staff.

Provide support for community relation events. Examples of events may include health fairs, mission fairs, craft shows, other speaking engagements, as well as the Day of Prayer Luncheon, Thanksgiving Meal, and more. Assist with planning and implementing activities prior to, and during events. Ability and willingness to understand and share the mission of Interfaith with people is required. |
